The gateway to the Pacific Ocean
Home mainly to Afro-Colombian communities, this is an area of dark sand beaches, murky seas and strong tides. Buenaventura, its only municipality, offers exotic cuisine and, just outside the city, beaches like Ladrilleros, Piangüita and La Bocana, plus whale watching in the second half of each year.
