Lugares Sitios 
Palmira is one of the headquarters of the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT). This municipality carries out research on agricultural development for the entire country, covering crops such as cassava, sugarcane, palm, and beans, making it the most important center of its kind in Colombia and South America. It is also a hub for sugar mills, hosting some of the most important industrial and agricultural centers in the department of Valle del Cauca. It is located in the southern region of the department, on the eastern bank of the Cauca River.
